WESTLOCK — The Westlock RCMP have reason to believe that the suspect in a shooting that occurred at the end of July is still in the area.

“He’s out and about, and we’d love to get him off the street and into the court system,” said Staff Sgt. Jeff Sehn of the Westlock RCMP.

At about 5:30 a.m. on July 30, emergency medical services contacted the RCMP to assist with a 40-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach in the vicinity of Fawcett, which is about 50 km north of Westlock.

While the victim was transported to an Edmonton area hospital for treatment, officers determined the identity of the suspect, who had fled the scene.

Justin Alexander McKinney, 30, faces 10 charges including aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent.

McKinney is described as 5’10”, 180 pounds and having a light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. He may be driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta licence plate CJK 5656. The truck also features a “very large push bar” and a decal that reads, “Locally hated.”

The Westlock RCMP advise residents not to approach McKinney, but to instead contact them with information about his whereabouts by phoning (780) 349-4491.
