According to some media reprorts, an Alberta family is mourning the loss of their 21-year old son and brother, Zachareah Adam Quraishi, who was shot and killed along the Gaza border in southern Israel earlier this week
Quraishi's family is reported to reside in Airdrie. He was reportedly gunned down on Monday, July 22.
His father, Adam Quraishi, an Alberta teacher and father of five, posted on Facebook on Monday, "My 21-year-old son Zachareah was killed. I'm not able to talk now… I'm processing... Prayers pls. He was an empathetic boy. I'm confused."
The Airdrie City View has been unable to contact Adam Quraishi to confirm any details of the story. According to other media reports, Zachareah was said to have been shot after screaming “Free Palestine!” and running at Israeli security guards at Netiv Ha’asara with a knife.
Video of the attack released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), circulating on social media, shows a man identified as Zachareah Quraishi running towards armed guards patrolling gates before the guards shoot him dead.
According to Israeli reports, he had arrived in the country the day before as a tourist. Images being circulated online of his passport show it had been issued at Cold Lake.
