BONNYVILLE - With Pink Shirt Day coming up on Feb. 26, the Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs set out to spread anti-bullying awareness at local schools and gear up for their Anti-Bullying Night game in Bonnyville, which will take place on March 14.
Players will don pink socks and gear in support of the anti-bullying campaign and play against the Devon Xtreme team.
Associate General Manager Neil Langridge says the team has been touring around schools, joining classrooms and assemblies to both spread anti-bullying awareness and offer the students free tickets to the Anti-Bullying Night.
“We do a presentation at the schools. We have a whole program that's built to spread anti-bullying awareness and explain why Pink Shirt Day started,” says Langridge.
Langridge explains that the Anti-Bullying Night game is usually well attended and creates a high energy atmosphere that makes it exciting for both the players and the audience.
“We’ve been partnering with CNRL for this Anti-Bullying Night for years, and it always one of most well attended games . . . The players love it, it usually gets really loud and it’s full of kids, it’s pretty electric in the building,”
The Anti-Bullying Night game is part of the Pontiacs’ regular season games, and the general public is welcome to attend.
