Bonnyville’s Senior Drop-in Centre continues breakfast buffet

BONNYVILLE – Several people gathered at Bonnyville’s Senior Drop-in Centre to enjoy the first community pancake breakfast of 2025. The breakfasts are usually hosted on the first Sunday of the month.

Sitting next to the buffet table, you could hear the patrons commenting about how excited they were for the big fluffy pancakes with sucre à la crème, strawberries, whipped cream, or maple syrup. The buffet also included a savoury breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausages, hashbrowns, coffee, tea, and juice.

The volunteer-run event helps the Senior Drop-in Centre cover its operational costs and is hosted by the Bonnyville Senior Citizens Society. Their president, Sherry Hennessey, says last year, the society recorded over 4,000 volunteer hours.

“And those are only the hours that were recorded. There were for sure even more,” says Hennessey.

The pancake breakfasts usually see a great turn out, and are a great way visit with family and friends and mingle with community members.

“We usually have plus or minus 100 people show up for the breakfast,” says Hennessey. “Sometimes we will have several generations of family come out to these events.”

Hennessey says the Senior Drop-in Centre is accessible not only to seniors, but to the entire community.
