BONNYVILLE - RCMP were able to stop suspects in their tracks after two individuals stole an RCMP owned side-by-side off-highway vehicle (OHV).
On Aug. 24, just after 7 a.m., two women allegedly stole the OHV, which had been parked within the Town of Bonnyville.
"The ladies immediately drove the OHV out of town to the south," according to RCMP. Since the OHV was owned by RCMP, who were alerted of the theft immediately, police had the ability to cut power to the engine remotely.
Billie Wheaton, 25, and Tiana Colins, 29, were arrested and taken into custody.
Wheaton, who has ties to Fishing Lake and Cold Lake First Nations, and Colins, who has ties to Bonnyville and Edmonton, are both being charged with theft over $5,000 and flight from a police officer.
They were both released from custody during their bail hearings and are set to appear in court on Sept. 24, according to information from RCMP.
