Drugs, homemade taser found after truck pulled over in Bonnyville

RCMP find crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and homemade taser during a roadside check in Bonnyville.

BONNYVILLE - RCMP found crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and over $500 cash during a roadside check in Bonnyville on Oct. 29, along with a homemade taser.

RCMP members had noticed an older pickup truck with a smashed rear windshield in the 4900 block of 66the Street, which lead to the roadside stop.

"Further observations of the truck noted it did not stop or signal when turning at an intersection with a stop sign," according to information from RCMP.

"The truck entered the parking lot of a local gas station where a roadside check was done by two RCMP members where it was explained to the driver of the truck that the reason for the stop was various Traffic Safety Act infractions."

RCMP say the driver did not have a valid license and the truck would be towed.

"While conducting a vehicle inventory prior to towing the vehicle, RCMP located crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and over $500 cash. The driver was then placed under arrest for being in possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and incidental to searching his pockets, additional crystal methamphetamine was found."

Kyle Rooks, 40, of Cold Lake has been charged with possession of meth for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property and two weapons offences for having a homemade taser, according to RCMP.

He was released from custody by a Justice of the Peace and is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial court on Nov. 5.
