BONNYVILLE - Despite smoky conditions, the grandstands were packed at the Bonnyville rodeo grounds from June 8-11, as spectators took in the chuckwagon races and all the events the Pro Rodeo had to offer. The event also included wild pony races and trick riding, among many other fan favourites.
Heats for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) races were held each evening from Thursday to Sunday.
The results of the four-day event saw chuckwagon driver Obrey Motowylo finish first with an aggregate score of 3:52.99. Coming in second place with an aggregate score of 3:54.27 was Bonnyville native Rae Croteau Jr.
Finishing third place in the Bonnyville leg of the WPCA circuit was Layne MacGillivray with 3:55.58.
Local chuckwagon driver Doug Irvine, known affectionately as 'The Story from La Corey,' finished the weekend slotted in 12th place with a final aggregate time of 4:00.80.
Pro Rodeo results
The Canadian Pro Rodeo Association has released unofficial results from its 10 events held at Bonnyville Rodeo. The top results are as follows.
Bareback riding:
Tied for first place with 85.5 points was Pascal Isabelle and Strawbs Jones.
Tied for third place was Kody Lamb and Spur Lacasse, who both earned a score of 85.
Steer wrestling:
First place - Tanner Milan with a total time of 3.6 seconds.
Second place - Morgan Grant with a total time of 3.7 seconds.
Third place - Chance Butterfield with a total time of 4.1 seconds.
Team roping:
Tied for first place with a time of 4.2 seconds was team Dawson Graham and Dillon Graham and team Riley Roy and Joey Romo II.
Finishing in third place was Brady Tryan and partner Calgary Smith with a total time of 4.3.
Saddle bronc riding:
Kole Ashbacher finished in first place after receiving 86.5 points.
Jake Watson, Quinten Taylor and Layton Green all tied for second place after receiving a final score of 86.
Tie-down roping:
First place - Clayton Smith with a total of 8.4 seconds.
Second place - Logan Bird with a total time of 9.1 seconds.
Third place - Cooper Resch with a total time of 9.2 seconds.
Barrel racing:
First place - Lane Wills with a total time of 17.12 seconds.
Second place - Jessi Fish with a total time of 17.26 seconds.
Third place - Karli Haeberle with a total time of 17.27 seconds.
Breakaway roping:
First place - Shaya Biever with a total time of 2.3 seconds.
Second place - Jenna Dallyn with a total time of 2.5.
Tied for third place was Jessica Gunsch, Alicia Bird and Kiley Shade, all with a total time of 2.6 seconds.
Novice bareback:
First place - Ty Ferguson with 72 points.
Second place - Denver Leitch with 69 points.
Third place - Brady Schlesiger with 68 points.
Novice saddle bronc:
Cache Schellenberg and Devon Hay tied for first place after receiving 75 points.
Third place - Jaret Cooper with 72 points.
Junior steer riding:
First place - Hayden Mulvey with 76.5 points.
Second place - Davis Young, with 74 points.
Third place - William Hale with 72 points.
