Think you cannot draw, Lorna Bennett will prove that you can. Bennett, a renowned illustrator, was recently in Bonnyville providing an instructive and interactive illustration seminar for people of any age, interested in drawing. Bennett said, after nine years of doing these presentations, the single most important thing is “showing people that everyone can draw.”
Bennett is incredibly enthusiastic about art and drawing. For most of the seminar Bennett had a participant at the front with her, involved in the teaching. Bennett held two sessions: a morning session for younger children, and an afternoon session consisting of about ten youths and two or three adults.
During the afternoon session Bennett would have different participants come up to the front and do a facial expression, while she drew it on the art board and explained her techniques as she went along. Everyone at the session had a great time drawing and interacting with Bennett, who was very friendly and easy to talk to.
“I really liked it,” said Mackenzie Cooper, a young up-and-coming illustrator. “She is a really good teacher and a really funky drawer.”
Sept. 25 was Bennett's second time hosting an illustration seminar at the Bonnyville Library. She said she would love to come back again; “it was a great crowd.”
Library programmer Amanda Leckie said they would definitely have Bennett back for another seminar. In fact, she said the library was looking to host more art and community-based seminars. Leckie said they plan to host a local author in the near future, with further plans to host various artists and speakers. Check out the library for more details on future seminars and guest speakers.
