BONNYVILLE – MD of Bonnyville Deputy Reeve Darcy Skarsen has announced he will run for reeve in this fall’s municipal election, scheduled to be held in October.
“After many lengthy discussions with my family, friends and council, I am happy to announce that this morning I handed in my nominations papers to run for the reeve of the MD of Bonnyville at next fall’s municipal election,” said Skarsen.
Skarsen said it's been an “honour and privilege” to serve as MD Ward 2 Councillor for the past seven years and encourages anyone with questions or comments to reach out to him.
Skarsen explained that he made the announcement early for a few reasons, one of which was to verify the rumours that may be circulating. Additionally, Skarsen wanted to allow anyone interested in pursuing his current role as Ward 2 councillor time to decide.
“I hope to work with all potential nominees to help them learn about the position and what to expect going in,” said Skarsen.
As Skarsen is now in the role of deputy reeve, he felt an early announcement would allow voters to see him in action and understand what they might expect of him as reeve.
According the MD of Bonnyville, “The Nomination Period is Jan. 1 to Sept. 22, 2025, with the nomination deadline set for Sept. 22, 2025 at 12 p.m.”
