BONNYVILLE – The MD of Bonnyville has announced that Ben Berlinguette will be the new Chief Administrative Office (CAO) as of Feb. 3.

Berlinguette comes with a 20-year career including key roles in municipalities such as Thorhild Country, Foothills Country, The City of Edmonton, and his last position with the Town of Valleyview.

“Born and raised just outside of St. Paul, Berlinguette’s early passion for building and creating, coupled with his commitment to lifelong learning, has shaped his approach to leadership,” stated information from the MD of Bonnyville.

The municipality says Berlinguette brings a list of qualifications including Civil Engineering Technology from NAIT, certifications in Local Government Management, Project Management, and Incident Command Systems. Paired with experience in a wide range of industries from oil and gas, transportation, and environmental services, the MD expressed confidence in Berlinguette.

“We are excited to have Mr. Berlinguette on board and look forward to working with him as we continue to serve and enhance our community,” said Reeve Barry Kalinski.

The MD also commented on the volunteer efforts included in Berlinguette’s resume.

“[His] experience is complemented by his dedication to volunteerism, having served on numerous boards and committees, where he has earned recognition for his contributions,” stated the MD.

Berlinguette will play a critical role in creating “responsible growth and sustainability” for the MD, according to the municipality.

“His experience managing large budgets, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and his commitment to strong governance and effective communication will ensure the MD remains a place where residents can thrive, and industry can grow.”

Berlinguette’s resignation from his position with the Town of Valleyview was announced in a statement written on behalf of council by Valleyview Mayor Vern Lymburner, expressing gratitude for Berlinguette’s “leadership, commitment and tireless efforts.”

“Ben’s contributions to Valleyview will have a lasting impact, and we are truly thankful for the time and energy he has invested in making our town a better place for all residents. We wish him nothing but the best in his next adventure within another rural community,” said Lymburner.
