BONNYVILLE - A second driveway for the M.D. of Bonnyville’s Waste Services yard was denied by council during the March 11 meeting.
According to information from the agenda package, it would be in the interest of public safety to have a second approach providing direct access to the office and parking area.
Ward 6 Coun. Ben Fadeyiw opposed the recommendation, making an exception to the M.D.’s policy, calling it “biased.”
“There was a trucking outfit that was working out of there for four years with zero issues coming in and out of the yard. Why should we make an exception to this now? It's very biased,” said Fadeyiw, noting numerous other requests for driveways that have been denied.
Following Fadeyiw’s comments, council went into closed session for approximately 20 minutes citing FOIP section 25, economic interest. Ward 2 Coun., Deputy Reeve Darcy Skarsen voted against going into closed session.
Ward 1 Coun. Josh Crick said he thought the application should be approved.
"I think it makes sense. The request for safety reasons, they're trying to keep public out of the area where the equipment is,” said Crick.
Ward 3 Coun. Mike Krywiak made a motion to refuse the request. The motion carried 6-1 with Crick opposed.
