Nordic Ski club helps Bonnyville residents get skiing

BONNYVILLE - The Bonnyville Nordic Ski Club made the sport accessible for all with a free event that included equipment rentals and a lesson led by coach Les Parsons.

The event took place on Jan. 11 at Muriel Lake and was open to both adults and youth to come and experience the sport.

Parsons said Bonnyville has wonderful cross-country skiing trails, and the Bonnyville Nordic Ski Club president Christine St. Laurent and her team of volunteers work to provide ski opportunities for the community.

“Bonnyville is blessed to be located in the center of the Lakeland region – a mecca for cross-country skiing,” said Parsons.

Parsons explained that the Muriel Lake Park ski trails are maintained by the MD of Bonnyville.

“The best part of the lesson was learning downhill technique while exploring the wilderness forest trails at Muriel Lake Park,” said Parsons.

After the lesson, Parsons took skiers on a tour around Muriel Lake.

“Our wilderness forest trails are Olympic caliber. We are blessed with one of the best Nordic facilities between Edmonton and Saskatoon,” said Parsons.

He suggests anyone interested in cross-country skiing should connect with the Bonnyville Nordic Ski Club to get more information about equipment rentals, the sport, and local trails.
