A single vehicle crash north on Highway 881 took place at around 5:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6, resulting in the transport of a single person to Edmonton for treatment of injuries.
According to Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority Chief Brian McEvoy, the incident took place on Highway 881, south of Township Road 630.
"One person was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to St. Paul," he said, adding ambulance services from Bonnyville and Elk Point responded to the scene. STARS air ambulance was dispatched to St. Paul before 7 a.m. to transport the injured person to Edmonton.
According to Bonnyville RCMP, initial investigation of the collision scene revealed that the vehicle crossed the centerline, crossed the oncoming traffic lane and drove into the ditch on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle then struck an approach where it became airborne for a few hundred feet before tumbling end over end.
RCMP say it was during this time the driver was ejected from the vehicle into the nearby treed area. The driver is listed in critical condition.
At this point police believe alcohol may have been involved.
