LAKELAND - Tim Spelliscy has served on the Covenant Health Board of Directors for seven years, and has now been appointed board chair, effective Jan. 1.

Spelliscy brings experience from 42 years in broadcast media and has worked with the Archdiocese of Edmonton and Catholic Social Services. Additionally, Spelliscy is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and a Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

Covenant Health stated that Spelliscy is brining “invaluable expertise to [their] mission of compassionate care and collaboration.”

Within the Lakeland, the Bonnyville Health Centre is operated by Covenant Health.

Spelliscy said the opportunity is a privilege.

“Healthcare in Alberta is undergoing significant transformation, and I am honoured to play a role in advancing Covenant Health’s mission to serve others with compassion and create vibrant communities of health and healing,” said Spelliscy.

Covenant Health spoke about its commitment to delivering accessible, innovative, and timely care, and how Spelliscy’s appointment reflects efforts to improve the health care system.

“The appointment coincides with Alberta’s efforts to refocus healthcare by establishing a unified health system with specialized provincial health agencies . . . This leadership change reflects Covenant Health’s commitment to collaboration, patient-centered services, and advancing Alberta’s healthcare system,” stated Covenant Health.

CEO of Covenant Health Patrick Dumelie stated that Covenant Health is fortunate to have Spelliscy working with the organization.

“His deep understanding of our mission, combined with his vast experience, will be essential as we navigate the evolving healthcare landscape. Tim’s commitment to service and community will help us build on the strong foundation we’ve established,” said Dumelie.

Outgoing board chair and former Premier of Alberta, Ed Stelmach, said it has been a pleasure working alongside Spelliscy, and expressed his confidence in Spelliscy’s leadership.

“His leadership and dedication have already made a significant impact. I am confident that as he steps into this new role, Tim will continue to guide Covenant Health with wisdom and a deep commitment to compassionate care,” said Stelmach.

Stelmach received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his public service in the fall of 2024, and Covenant health expressed gratitude for his 12 years of leadership.
