BONNYVILLE – The Town of Bonnyville hosted an open house showcasing plans to upgrade Lakeshore drive, increasing the recreational opportunities, landscaping utilizing native and beneficial plants, access to the waterfront, trails, and more.
Some members of council were in attendance, reaffirming what incredible features Jessie Lake and Lakeshore Drive are for the community, and how they should be utilized to their full potential.
The plans include the use of native grasses and pollinator gardens to contribute positively to the ecology. Increased access to Jessie Lake with lookouts, the improvement of riparian areas, and the improvement of water quality with a fountain, are just some features of the plans to enhance the community's experience with nature surrounding Lakeshore Drive.
Manicured gardens were proposed as well, including a rose garden, prayer garden, and tranquil places to sit and enjoy the gardens.
Recreational opportunities such as a lake-side skating rink, a cross-country skiing trail head, and a basketball court were proposed as well as an amphitheatre to enhance community events such as Canada day.
The presentation explained that many of the features aim to foster a vibrant environment, draw the community out to enjoy the beautiful space, and create recreation and event opportunities so people can gather in community.

The project was facilitated by Stantec, an engineering consulting company that says they are “a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting,” according to their website.
