COLD LAKE - The City of Cold Lake is about to dive into some summer fun at its annual Aqua Days. The event will be on August 3 at Kinosoo Beach from 11 a.m to 4 p.m for a splash-tastic day of sun, sand, and water-filled excitement.
The family-friendly event promises a day packed with fun activities, including cardboard boat races, a mermaid show, circus performances, a foam party, face painting, sparkle tattoos, bouncy houses, and water sports equipment rentals. The day will conclude with a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
Katie Pankhurst, Community Event Programmer for the City of Cold Lake, shared details about the event. “Every year we usually rent out Wicked Watersports just for their non-motorized equipment. So, we'll have that this year - as well as lifeguards just because people will be in the water.”
Attendees can rent watercrafts for free between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The event will also feature face painting by Splash of Colors and the Flying Bob Circus, where kids can try activities like juggling and walking on stilts.
Several performances and activities are lined up for the day.
“We have the Joe Show coming down from Edmonton. He's got a slip and slide and a foam machine, so we'll be doing that as well. The kids can slide down a slip and slide and end up in a foam pit,” Pankhurst explained.
Additionally, Mega Bounce House will bring a water bouncy castle and a large slide.
A new highlight for this year is the Mermaid Show.
“We have the mermaids coming this year, which I think is going to be a big hit. So, we'll have two mermaids down there. They're going to be doing sing-alongs, question and answers, the kids get to pet the mermaids, they're going to be splashing in a pool, that kind of thing,” said Pankhurst.
Photo opportunities will be available with the mermaids, making it a memorable experience for children.
Aqua Days is a family-focused event, with activities for all ages.
Cardboard boat races
Registration for the popular cardboard boat race is now available online. Participants must use only cardboard and duct tape to create their boats and are encouraged to be creative and also name their boats.
Prizes are awarded for the fastest and most unique boats.
While Aqua Days typically draws mostly local families to Kinosoo Beach over the August long weekend event, the event is still expected to draw around 4,000 attendees, according to Pankhurst.
