COLD LAKE - City of Cold Lake council discussed several funding requests during the June 11 regular council meeting, focusing on many upcoming events in the community.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities 10th Annual Golf Charity Classic was included in the events. CAO Kevin Nagoya highlighted the event, which was took place on June 15 at the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club.
The cost to put in a team was $600, which Mayor Craig Copeland expressed interest in doing.
Coun. Adele Richardson supported the idea.
"I'm okay with that. I think it's a wonderful organization," she said.
Council approved a $600 entry fee for a team with funds coming from Council Goodwill.
Healthier Communities 2024 Golf Tournament
Nagoya also introduced a request from Lac La Biche County.
“There's a government-to-government component for entering a team to help with their fundraiser for the 2024 Healthier Communities Golf Tournament," he said. Registration for a team of four in the golf tournament is $1,400.
The invitation came from Lac La Biche County, Portage College, and the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation. The event is scheduled to take place at the Lac La Biche Golf & Country Club on July 4.
This golf tournament aims not only to showcase the scenic beauty of the region, but also to raise funds for a healthier future in Lac La Biche County, according to the City of Cold Lake agenda.
Copeland noted interest, while Coun. Bob Mattice proposed a motion.
Council approved a $350 sponsorship if individual members decide they want to attend the Lac La Biche event.
Taste at the Lake
Nagoya then spoke to about the Taste at the Lake – Open Farm Days Long Table Dinner happening on Aug. 17 at the Cold Lake Marina Breakwall but noted no funding request was received.
"There's no consideration for free tickets. In this regard, it's the cost of tickets," he said, mentioning prices ranging from $165 to $245.
Only 120 seats are available for the event. A portion of the proceeds will be going to a community organization to be determined at a later point, according to information presented to council.
Coun. Chris Vining opposed using taxpayer money for the event.
“If folks want to get a ticket, they should just get a ticket and go as themselves," he said.
Council decided against purchasing tickets collectively, leaving it up to individuals.
