COLD LAKE - The Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club has a lineup of golf events scheduled for this summer, promoting community engagement for all ages.

The club offers a variety of activities beyond regular golfing operations, which include nine or 18-hole rounds and a full-service driving range.

“We do offer leagues throughout the week,” says Janese Nielson, Golf and Winter Club Programmer. “Tuesday is our ladies’ day and ladies’ night. And then on Wednesdays, we have our senior mornings, and then we have our men's night for league in the evening on Wednesdays. And that is every week for the entire season.”

Nielson emphasized a variety of tournaments are also scheduled to take place throughout the summer.

“Technically next weekend we have our biggest event of the season, which is our Ronald McDonald House charity scramble. So that's a full day event. We are currently taking registrations where we need at least two more teams. We are at 32 of 34, so it is a very large event for our location. It's a full day of festivities that include a shotgun start at 9 a.m.”

The event will take place on June 15.

The Ronald McDonald House event is particularly festive, featuring numerous activities on each hole.

Other upcoming events include the Lady Scramble on June 22, which entails 18 holes of golf, dinner, and prizes. The Men's Open is set for July 6-7, the Seniors Open is on July 24, and the Club Championship will take place Aug. 24-25.

“Our final event of the season, another big event, is our Swing and Sweeps with a combination of curling and golfing from Sept.13-15. It's a three-day event,” Nielson shared.

Engaging new golfers

Nielson also mentioned the club's efforts to engage young and newer golfers.

“This season, we're carrying forward our junior clinic and our youth on course program. In July, we're going to have a youth clinic that offers lessons from ages six and up. We have a golfing pro working with us this season to assist with these courses,” he said.

Additionally, the club is planning a ladies’ clinic to cater to female golfers.

“For any female interested in learning golf, it’s not always the easiest to learn from your partner, so why not have a third party offer those lessons? Sometimes it’s easier to pick up and less friction,” Nielson remarked.

To register for any of these events or to learn more about the membership packages, Nielson advised, “You can go to our City of Cold Lake website, call in, or simply pop in during our regular hours of operation, visit our pro shop, and we’ll walk you through all the steps.”

Nielson concluded by highlighting the club's welcoming atmosphere and importance to the community.

“I feel, at least from my personal experience already being here, this particular course really brings a sense of camaraderie amongst our members. Everyone is so friendly.”
