Man arrested in Cold Lake after stealing truck with children inside

RCMP REPORT

COLD LAKE - A 37-year-old man is in custody after stealing a truck from a convenience store parking lot in Cold Lake that had two older children inside.

On May 24, at approximately 10 p.m., a Cold Lake RCMP officer was conducting patrols when they noticed a distraught individual in a convenience store parking lot on 55 St.

Two adults had entered the store and when they exited, they found their idling truck had been stolen. Two older children were in the truck at the time of the theft.

Police immediately set up containment in the area and were searching for the truck when the children walked back to the store unharmed. It is alleged the suspect stole the truck and then dropped off the children a short distance away.

Cold Lake RCMP located the truck abandoned near the store. With assistance from RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS), the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.

Owen Stanley, 37, of Frog Lake, was charged with two counts of abduction, common nuisance - endanger life, flight from a peace officer, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a probation order.

Stanley was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing. He is set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court on May 27.
