Man arrested in death of woman on Big Island Cree Territory

RCMP have arrested a man in connection to the death of a woman on Big Island Cree Territory in Saskatchewan. The community is located about 58 kilometres east of Cold Lake, Alberta.

RCMP have arrested a man in connection to the death of a woman on Big Island Cree Territory in Saskatchewan. 

According to Pierceland RCMP, they got a call at about 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 12 that someone had been seriously injured at a home on Big Island Lake Cree Territory. When officers arrived they found a deceased woman. 

On Sept. 16, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes arrested an adult male in relation to the death.

"As a result of continued investigation, 26-year-old Marchant Kiseyinewakup from Big Island Lake Cree Territory was charged with one count, second-degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code," reads information released by RCMP.

His court date was not confirmed.

"Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continue to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to confirm the identity of the victim. Until the identity is confirmed, we will not be confirming the name of the deceased female," reads the RCMP release.

Big Island Cree Territory is located 58 kilometres from Cold Lake.
