COLD LAKE - The MD of Bonnyville has announced the start of construction of a new boat launch at Cold Lake MD Park.
The project is now underway, with in-water work scheduled for completion this winter and final paving and landscaping set for June.
A notice was posted on Jan. 9 by the MD of Bonnyville, confirming that construction is progressing as planned. The project is part of the MD’s 2024 Capital Projects Budget, which has allocated $500,000 for project management, engineering services, and construction.
“There was an existing boat launch in the same location that had been closed for some time due to poor condition,” explained Greg Sheppard, manager of parks and recreation for the MD of Bonnyville.
Construction is underway to restore access to the water with a new, improved launch.
Sheppard noted that with the nearby Cold Lake campground more than doubling in size and attracting more guests, restoring the boat launch was seen as a valuable addition.
The public is advised to be cautious around the construction site. Although the park will remain open to pedestrians, visitors are asked to stay clear of the fenced-off construction zone, where open water is present. The fencing will remain in place until the water refreezes and is deemed safe.
