The Carstar Okotoks Bisons (10-1-0) had a little bit of everything in consecutive convincing road victories over the High River Brewing Co. Flyers and Medicine Hat Cubs on Oct. 27-28 to solidify first-place in a loaded Heritage Junior Hockey League Southern Division.
On Saturday, Okotoks overpowered the Cubs 7-1 in a game pitting teams with just one loss.
Defenceman Trevor Bonham notched his first goal with the team with Easton Dean tallying two, Scott Brown notching his seventh and Adam Kirkpatrick, Brayden Kapty and Avery Greig registering their third goals of the season.
Grady Nicholas turned aside 24 shots to improve to 8-1.
The night prior, the Bisons charged past High River by a 6-1 count on the strength of a three-goal middle frame at the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex.
Captain Lucas Watkins opened the scoring on the man-advantage, fellow-blueliner Caden Scott found the back of the net with Brown, Jake Snashall, Owen McFarlane and Kaleb Schuller lighting the lamp for the visitors.
High River’s Connor Smith countered for the Flyers with his league-leading 15th marker.
The Bisons will take their six-game win streak to home ice this weekend.
On Friday, the herd welcomes the Strathmore Wheatland Kings for their first meeting since the opening weekend of the regular season. Puck-drop is 8 p.m. at the Murray arena.
The following night, Okotoks travels northwest to tango with the Rocky Rams.
