Okotoks Bisons eliminate Generals in overtime thriller

Okotoks and Medicine Hat to clash in HJHL South Final

The Bisons worked overtime Saturday to book a ticket to the South Final.

Kegan Law scored at the 9:08 mark of overtime as the Carstar Okotoks Bisons capped a 6-5 barnburner win over the host Cannex Cochrane Generals to take the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Semifinal series three games to one.

For the second straight game, the Generals jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame with Nathan Sheriffs and Noah Nardella lighting the lamp.

A wild second period saw Okotoks throw 25 shots on goal and score four goals through Adam Kirkpatrick, Jakob Semeniuk, Law and Avery Greig to take a 4-3 lead into the intermission.

In the third, Okotoks earned a brief two-goal lead on a McCallum Bakken tally with Brendan Thubron and Sheriffs, who completed the hat trick, tallying to even the score and force overtime.

In the extra session, Okotoks put the game and series to rest on Law's second goal of the contest.

Connor White made 26 saves for his third win in four playoff starts for Okotoks while Isaias Maddigan turned aside 50 of 56 shots for the Gens.

Cochrane avoided elimination on Friday with a 4-2 win in Okotoks after the Bisons took the first two games of the series by 3-2 and 4-3 scores.

Okotoks will meet the Medicine Hat Cubs in the South Final for the third time in the past four playoffs.

Medicine Hat, the third seed in the South, dispatched the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings in four games in the other division semifinal.

In the North, the Sylvan Lake Wranglers corralled a three-game sweep over the Airdrie Thunder while the Red Deer Vipers struck a four-game series win over the Mountainview Colts.

The schedule for the Bisons and Cubs South Final, also a best-of-five set, has not been released.
