Canada Post has ceased delivering mail to the town of Jasper but plans on offering free mail forwarding to impacted residents.
A red delivery service alert was issued for Jasper on July 23 due to the evacuation of the community.
“A red alert means that there will be no mail delivery in the community,” Canada Post stated in an email to the Fitzhugh.
“The safety of our employees is our number one priority.”
The town’s post office remains intact, and any mail still there will continue to be held there for the time being.
Canada Post said any mail heading for Jasper will be held at its Edmonton facility until further notice.
“We understand the importance of postal services to our customers and we continue to put contingency measures in place, assessing the situation and options, to best serve residents of Jasper and to keep them connected,” the email added.
More information on mail forwarding and details to request the free service will be shared later this week.
