Highway 16 through Jasper was fully re-opened to traffic.

Almost a month after Highway 16 through Jasper National Park closed due to wildfires, it has fully re-opened.

On Aug. 19 the Highway was available around the clock. Highway 16 connects Jasper to Hinton and Edmonton.

When the wildfire in Jasper broke out, Highway 16 was closed to traffic, opened to commercial vehicles on Aug. 1 and then only available to all vehicles between the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

According to Alberta 511, the Highway can be used at all hours now, but there are still some restrictions.

"Motorists must proceed directly through the park with NO STOPPING along the highway," says a notice on the Alberta 511 website. "Access to the Town of Jasper is limited to residents and first responders."

Residents were allowed to return back starting Friday Aug. 19. Only those with the proper paperwork could get in to the town.

Highway 93N between Highway 16 and the Icefields Information Centre remains closed, cutting off traffic flow between Jasper and Banff.
