Although details about the extent of the wildfire damage in and around the Jasper townsite are still emerging, photos, a recently shared map, a damage report, and updates from Parks Canada are revealing the condition of many popular hotels and resorts.
Below are some travel spots that have been confirmed to have been struck by the wildfire.
Alpine Village Cabin Resort
Located southwest of the Jasper townsite and near the Athabasca River, the Alpine Village Lodge has seen significant damaged from the wildfire.
“Of our 55 log cabins, 25 cabins have been completely burned to the ground with an additional 5 having sustained significant damage,” says a message from the resort’s website.
The resort’s main office, a home on the resort site, and the resort’s accommodation buildings, laundry room and maintenance shops were not damaged.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
The Fairmont lodge in Jasper has been damaged by the wildfire.
“We are able to confirm that though the hotel did incur fire damage, most of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge structures, including the main lodge, remain standing and intact,” reads a message on the lodge’s website.
“While we will need time to assess the full scale of the damage and the timelines required for repair and restoration, we are deeply relieved that much of the property was spared and the resort will re-open in the future.”
Maligne Lodge
Photos from the Jasper townsite show that the Maligne Lodge hotel was completely destroyed by the wildfire.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us to share their memories of the Maligne Lodge,” reads a message on the Lodge’s website. “These mean so much to us, and we’re so glad to have had the opportunity to be part of your vacations in Jasper.”
“At the moment, whilst we are waiting to determine the wildfire’s impact on our sister property, the Tonquin Inn, we are focused on caring for our staff and our Jasper community.”
Tekarra Lodge
Tekarra Lodge, southwest of the Jasper townsite near the Athabasca River, has been damaged by the fire.
Before the fire, Tekarra Lodge had 11 cabins available for travellers and vacationers in Jasper.
“We have received confirmation from Parks Canada that the fire unfortunately has affected the grounds of Tekarra Lodge,” says a message on the lodge’s website. “Preliminary assessments indicate that we have lost several structures, including the front office, the main building with the restaurant, and several cabins. However, the full extent of the damage remains unclear. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
Mount Robson Inn
According to a damage report from the Municipality of Jasper, Mount Robson Inn has been destroyed.
Photos indicate that the Athabasca Hotel, a Jasper landmark, has not been damaged.
The Lobstick Lodge, Marmot Lodge, Forest Park Hotel and Chateau Jasper are showing no visible damage, according to a damage report from the municipality.
