Children's Fish Derby draws large group of kids, parents.

Approximately 51 youngsters and their parents register for annual Children's Fish Derby at Alexander Hamilton Park on Sunday.

LAC LA BICHE - It’s recommended to make hay when the sun shines... or go fishing with family.

And on Sunday morning, 64 youngsters and their families said, "Hay -  let's go fishing at the Summer Days Children's Fish Derby."

The swarm of young anglers took advantage of the  warm weekend weather for a few hours of fishing, socializing and fun at Alexander Hamilton Park's fishing pond.

The annual Children’s Fish Derby, which has been a part of Lac La Biche Summer Days for decades, also gave the participants who landed the four biggest fish the opportunity to win their choice of four top prizes from a mountain of prizes.  With dozens of smaller prizes — at least one for every little fisher-person, all donated by local businesses  — the top awards included a brand-new bicycle and local gift certificates.

As soon as everyone had finished casting their lines, the families were also treated to a campfire hot-dog roast while each of the kids received a complimentary cooler bag filled with treats.

This year’s Children’s Fish Derby was organized by the Lac La Biche Ladies Muslim Association.
