Craigend barbecue draws fun and food

The event took place on Aug. 28 at the Craigend Community Centre.

CRAIGEND - Community barbecue events are a popular attraction during the summer months. On Aug. 28, a large group of people turned out for the fourth annual Craigend Community BBQ.

The event, which was held at the Craigend Hall, featured free hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream. This was part of a potluck lunch in which folks were asked by the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society-who puts on the social event each year-to bring a side dish or dessert.

While the barbecue is normally held outdoors on the grounds of the Craigend Community Centre, for this year, due to wet and cool weather, it was moved indoors. Along with plenty of good food and a chance to socialize with friends and neighbours, the community event also included a variety of fun games for all ages such as bean-bag toss and ladder ball, as well as more kid-specific activities that were hosted by the Lac La Biche County Fun Van.

There was also live musical entertainment on stage at the local community hall.

According to Molly Fyten, a member of the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society, since its inception in 2021, the Craigend Community BBQ-which is free for the public to attend-generally draws quite a few people.
