Enjoying some outdoor hockey

Warm temperatures over the Dec. 27 weekend meant that people in the Lac La Biche area could enjoy outdoor winter activities.

LAC LA BICHE - The weather in Lac La Biche County over the Dec. 27 weekend was warm enough for residents to enjoy various outdoor winter activities, including open-air games of hockey.

In the early afternoon of Dec. 28, Hussein Ghutmy and Wyatt Diesel laced up their skates and took to the ice on the outdoor skating rink in Dumasfield Park in the hamlet of Lac La Biche to play some recreational hockey.  

The Dumasfield Park rink is one of six outdoor facilities in Lac La Biche County. The five other rinks are located in Craigend, Owl River, Rich Lake, Holowachuk Estates, and Lakeview Estates.These rinks are operated by the municipality and are open the winter months. 

As stated in information from Environment Canada on Dec. 28, increasingly colder temperatures were forecasted for the Lac La Biche region going into final days of 2024 and the first week of 2025. Daytime highs of -20 and nighttime lows of -26 were projected to arrive in the area by Thursday, Jan. 2.
