CRAIGEND – On March 14, the inside of the Craigend Community Hall was turned into a casino as people stopped over to hedge their bets and have fun while helping raise funds for the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society.
Doors opened at 6:30 p.m. and the games got underway at 7 p.m.
Molly Fyten, a member of the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society, said the entry fee of $40 for the event entitled people to $30,000 of ‘fun money,’ a chance to win door prizes, and a pulled pork lunch with all the trimmings.
“The fun money is used to play a variety of casino type games such as Blackjack, Craps, Horse Racing and others,” Fyten said.
According to Fyten, once the games ended, people were able to use their winnings to bid on a selection of auction items that included sporting goods, a power saw, as well as a load of gravel.
The fun casino night is one of the Craigend Recreation and Agricultural Society’s biggest fundraisers. The first casino was held in 2017.
“They are usually very successful and is a fun, unique event in our area. All of the auction items are generously donated by individuals and businesses, and all proceeds go to the hall,” Fyten said.
The night of rolling the dice and socialization drew several people from the area, including Kyle Beniuk.
The casino, Beniuk said, gives people an opportunity to come out and have a good time playing with fun money and bidding on door prizes, all while supporting the Craigend Community Hall.
“It’s a great money maker for our hall,” he said. “We get lots of great donations from the community.”
