Hydro vac excavation done in preparation for next phase of Main Street revitalization project

Work was done on Jan. 21 and 22 at the intersection of 100 Street and 101 Avenue (Main Street) in the hamlet of Lac La Biche.

LAC LA BICHE – On Jan. 21 and 22, Lac La Biche County crews were performing hydro vac excavation at the intersection of 100 Street and 101 Avenue (Main Street) in the hamlet of Lac La Biche.

The work was being done in preparation for the third and final phase of the $32.5 million Main Street Revitalization project, which is slated to get underway this spring.

The next portion of work on the Main Street project will take place on Lac La Biche’s 101 Avenue between 100 Street and 101 Street. That section of roadway, from the Alberta Treasury Branch to Lac La Biche Sporting Goods, will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project.

According to information from Lac La Biche County, hydro vac excavation is a “safe and efficient” way of exposing underground infrastructure using pressurized water and a vacuum system.

“Hydro vacc-ing allows us to confirm the location of existing utilities in advance of construction, saving time and money once construction starts,” according to the County.

Motorists were told to expect partial traffic interruptions at the 100 Street and 101 Avenue intersection, and that a traffic control person would be guiding vehicles through the area as work during the duration of the work.
