Ice festival in Lac La Biche started with block party and concert

LAC LA BICHE – The 2025 Lac La Biche Ice Festival began the afternoon of Feb. 28 with an block party, followed by a concert that evening at the Bold Centre. From 3 to 6 p.m., people gathered on 102nd Street in downtown Lac La Biche for the block party that featured free food, music and a chance to watch ice sculptors at work.

MEGA trucks that later took to the ice of Lac La Biche to practice and race against each over the weekend were on display on 102nd Street. The area was cordoned off by Lac La Biche County community peace officers for the duration of the block party.

Although the car ice races were cancelled this year due to warm conditions on the lake caused water to sit on the surface of the ice, a few race cars were exhibited alongside the MEGA trucks during the block party.

Later in the evening of Feb. 28, a large crowd congregated at the Bold Centre for a concert featuring performances from Canadian country music stars Aaron Pritchett and Jess Moskaluke.

Country musician Olivia Rose, who grew up in Elk Point, opened for Pritchett and Moskaluke.
