Kids learn about bike safety, have fun at Lac La Biche bike rodeo

The event took place on Saturday, June 22 at the Lac La Biche County Protective Services Building.

While learning how to ride a bike is part of childhood, being taught how to do it safely is more important.

This is what groups of local youngsters did at the Lac La Biche Kids Bike Rodeo, which was held on the afternoon of Saturday, June 22, at the Protective Services Building. During the event, kids and their parents visited six stations set up around the parking lot that included helmet fitting, a bike washing station, an area to tune up bicycles to ensure that they were in good working order, as well as a table where a representative from Alberta Health Services provided information about brain injuries.

Officials with Lac La Biche County, along with some local conservation officers, were on hand to answer questions and assist in fitting bicycle helmets. There was also a bike obstacle course comprised of orange cones and other elements that kids had fun riding through.

All that bike riding can sure cause one to work up an appetite. Luckily, the event also included a barbeque. Furthermore, those who attended the bike rodeo could put their names in for the chance to win a brand-new bicycle.

On June 8, a fun bike rodeo designed to teach kids the basics of bike safety was held at Ecole Beausejour School in Plamondon. Both events were organized by Lac La Biche County Enforcement Services with the assistance of the Lac La Biche County Fire Rescue Services.
