LAC LA BICHE - Learning how to manage water wells and protect water supply is important for property owners, according to Lac La Biche County.
On Feb. 5, Lac La Biche County will be hosting a ‘Working Well Workshop’ at McArthur Place, located at 10307 100 Street in the hamlet of Lac La Biche.
According to information from the municipality’s Agricultural Services department, supper starts at 5:30 p.m., and the workshop gets underway around 6:30 p.m. The session is free to attend for people who own a farm, acreage, or recreational property with a water well.
The presenter of the workshop will be Curtis Snell of the provincial Working Well Program.
“Curtis has a wealth of well knowledge, and we’re confident that this will be a very informative event to attend,” according to information from the Ag Services department.
Those who attend the workshop will learn about various key topics related to water well management, including understanding groundwater, how wells work, finding and understanding drilling reports, as well as water well problems.
The workshop will also discuss how to shock-chlorinate wells, along with how to properly take and test water samples.
Numerous ratepayers in Lac La Biche County purchase sodium hypochlorite (bleach) to treat their wells. This chemical is procured from the municipality and is available at the Lac La Biche County through the Agricultural Services Chemical Resale program.
The information from the County says the most frequently asked question by people is “how much bleach I should add to my well to properly shock it?”
The answer to this question will be addressed through this workshop.
The Ag Services department stated while Working Well Workshops have been hosted in the municipality in the past, none have taken place recently.
Registration is required ahead of the event.
