Lac La Biche Lakers drop home and away matches

The Lakers dropped a 7-5 decision to the High Prairie Red Wings on Nov. 1 and lost 9-2 to the Edson Eagles on home ice Nov. 2.

LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Lakers dropped a pair of games over the Nov. 1 weekend, losing 7-5 to the High Prairie Red Wings on the road and dropping a 9-2 decision to the visiting Edson Eagles.

During the first game, which took place at the High Prairie Sports Palace on Nov. 1, the Red Wings enjoyed a 3-0 lead throughout much of the first period until Raiden Perkins, with help from teammate Zach Beinert, got Lac La Biche onto the scoreboard. This was the first of three goals that Perkins would score throughout the evening.

After the Red Wings scored two more goals in the second period, the Lakers rebounded, and got the puck past High Prairie’s defences two more times.

With only six seconds remaining in the second period, Rob Rendle got Lac La Biche onto the scoreboard for a fourth time during the game.

It was a close 5-4 game going into the third period. While Perkins managed to get another goal, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Red Wings from securing a victory on home ice.

Nov. 3

The Lakers played at home on Nov. 3, taking on the Edson Eagles, who dominated the scoreboard from start to finish.

Just over three minutes into the first period, Rendle, assisted by Torin Talefeathers, scored a goal. But, the Lakers wouldn’t get back onto the scoreboard until the third period, when Ethan Auger, supported by Perkins and Rendle, got the team’s second and final goal of the match.

It’s been an uphill battle so far for the Lac La Biche Lakers, who started their inaugural season in the National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) in the late September.

The Lakers currently hold last place in the five-team NJHL North Division. So far, the team has three wins and seven losses.

The Lakers will hit the road for a Nov. 9 game against the Northern Alberta Lightning and then return home on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. game against The Vulcan Rampage.
