The redevelopment of McArthur Park and the former Lac La Biche Recreation Grounds — which began last month — is going well, with work progressing on schedule, say municipal officials.
The former Main 1 baseball diamond has been removed from the Lac La Biche Recreation Grounds, and soil from the area has been used for other projects within the re-development area, including new features along the McArthur Park beach and a "bio-swale" that is being created to assist with proper drainage.
“The old ball diamonds have been stripped, for use of soil storage for the project, and the bio-swale has been cleared and is ready for proper drainage sloping,” said Jihad Moghrabi, the marketing, and communications manager for Lac La Biche County.
Approval for new pier
Last week, Alberta Environment and Parks approved permit applications that had been submitted by the County for a permanent pier on Lac La Biche Lake in McArthur Park.
“We can now move forward with putting out tenders for construction of the new pier,” Moghrabi continued. “The plan for that is to get the area ready for structure install throughout the 2023/2024 winter, with a deck install in spring 2024.
The overall budgeted price tag of the project — which will see the creation of a skate-park, improved lake-access, green-space, and a bicycle dirt-track — is now at $7.5 million. Other features included in the plan will offer more leisure-focused activities like walking paths, a 'town square' feature and picnic areas.
