County officials are remaining tight-lipped about a private meeting held Wednesday regarding the performance of CAO Duane Coleman.
Communications Manager Shadia Amblie simply said that council voted to seek a legal opinion following the Oct. 18 meeting, which was held behind closed doors.
When asked what the legal opinion is about, Mayor Peter Kirylchuk said he couldn’t give any details on the motion.
“It’s basically that I contact our legal firm with respect to the discussions that we had in-camera,” Kirylchuk said.
Coleman was in his office throughout the week, but also did not disclose any details of the meeting or the legal opinion.
Monday meeting
Council will be holding another special meeting next Monday morning to have more discussions about the legal opinion. More details may become available at that time, Kirylchuk said.
“I would think that most of (Monday’s meeting) will be in-camera, however the results of the meeting will become public,” he said.
Council has the right to hold in-camera meetings regarding personnel, as well as legal and land issues.
Performance reviews of the CAO are held annually, but one didn’t take place last year because of the timing of the municipal election. This performance evaluation was held on the one-year anniversary of the election day.
Coleman has been the CAO for the past 10 years.
