Portage College student orientation events at Lakeland campuses

College officials say more than 1,780 students will become Portage learners this semester

LAKELAND - Portage College is projecting to have around 1,784 students in its in-class and online programs across all three of its main Lakeland campus locations for the 2024-2025 year, and on Aug. 29, many of those students participated in orientation events held in Lac La Biche, St. Paul, and Cold Lake.

During the annual orientation event, registered students who will be studying in Portage College’s various programs met their instructors and other members of the post-secondary institution’s faculty, and purchased books and supplies for the upcoming year.

The orientation was also an opportunity to touch base with student advisors, get funding and housing secured, and even learn about and sign up for the college’s sports teams. There were booths set up to provide information about the support services available at Portage College, along with a barbecue lunch during the noon-hour.

Many of the trades programs at Portage College have already begun, with the remainder of the programs on offer at the school set to start on Sept. 3.
