Portage College Voyageurs drop pair of games against NAIT OOKs

On Nov. 1 and 2, the Portage College Voyageurs men’s hockey team dropped away and home contests against the NAIT OOKs.

LAC LA BICHE - On Nov. 1 and 2, the Portage College Voyageurs men’s hockey team dropped away and home contests against the NAIT OOKs.

The Voyageurs travelled to Edmonton on Nov. 1, suffering a 6-3 loss to the OOKs, who currently hold second place in the seven-team Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference North Division (ACAC), while Portage College is in fifth spot.

Less than two minutes into the first period of the away game, Tye Evans, assisted by Xavier Halterman and Carter Yarish, got the Voyageurs onto the scoreboard, giving the team a 1-0 lead.

However, this advance would be short-lived as NAIT scored three consecutive goals in the second period. The Voyageurs managed to get two more goals before the final buzzer sounded and the OOKs emerged with a 6-3 victory.

Portage College returned to home ice the following evening, dropping a 5-1 decision to NAIT in a rematch that played out in front of a crowd at the Bold Center. The Voyageurs’ sole trip to the scoreboard in that home contest occurred near the end of the second period when Austin Mumby, with assistance from teammates Halterman and Yarish, got the puck past NAIT goaltender Ryley Osland.

The Voyageurs head to Calgary on Nov. 8 to face off against the SAIT Trojans, who will then be in Lac La Biche on Nov. 9 to take on the Voyageurs in a 1 p.m. match at the Bold Center.
