Portage College Voyageurs soccer squads prepare for season

The training session took place on the evening of Monday, Aug. 12 at the Bold Centre turf field.

LAC LA BICHE - With the season set to begin in early September, the Portage College Voyageurs men’s and women’s soccer teams have been on the pitch at the Bold Centre training in preparation for the regular season.

Throughout the Monday evening practice, the teams participated in different exercises, including intersquad scrimmages where players donned different coloured jerseys to play against each other.

According to Voyageurs' head coach Macky Singh, the training session was also held as an opportunity for those interested in joining the women’s soccer squad to come and try out. Singh said while the men’s team has 21 players going into the 2024-25 season, the women’s Voyageurs soccer squad is understaffed at 10 players, and he is looking to add five to six more athletes to the roster.

The Voyageurs’ first game of the regular season is against Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder in Edmonton on Sept. 7. The men’s and women’s squads will be on home turf for a double header against the NAIT Ooks, with the women playing at noon followed by the men at 2 p.m.
