Following an earlier report of a possible active shooter within the community of Buffalo Lake, RCMP say the situation has been thoroughly investigated and is deemed safe.

UPDATE: Following an earlier report of a possible active shooter within the community of Buffalo Lake, RCMP say the situation has been thoroughly investigated and is deemed safe.

"There was no threat to the community and the shelter in place has been lifted," reads an updated RCMP release, sent out shortly after 9:30 p.m.

"We recognize the anxiety and inconvenience this incident may have caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of the public. We remain committed to the safety of the communities we serve."

BUFFALO LAKE - Boyle, Lac La Biche and Smoky Lake RCMP are responding to a possible active shooter in Buffalo Lake, Sunday night.

"While police search for this suspect we are issuing a shelter in place for all residents of Buffalo Lake," reads a media release from RCMP, dated Oct. 6 and released shortly after 9 p.m.

"Residents within this area are asked to stay in your homes, lock your doors, and call 911 if you see anything suspicious. Individuals outside of this zone are asked to avoid the area."
