Lac La Biche artists are gearing up for the first ever art walk on June 11, offering residents and visitors the chance to go on a walking tour of local art displays inside different businesses to admire local art.
The art tour is part of Lac La Biche Senior’s Week, and organizers with the Lac La Biche Art Club say they organized the event to show off their work but to also give visitors a taste of what Lac La Biche has to offer.
“We want to promote Lac La Biche’s culture,” said Mel Kuprowsky, a member of the local art club. Art walk visitors will head to Cascade Flowers, Tom’s Pizza and Steakhouse and the LLB Heritage Seniors Centre during the tour as they admire local art. As part of the walking tour, LLB artists Germaine Cadieux and Fatima Taha will also open up their homes to visitors who want to get an ‘insider’s look’ at some of the local masterpieces being created.
Art tour goers will also be able to create their own masterpieces at Cascade Flowers as local artist and LLB art club member Zina Postnikov opens up her store for art lessons. Art tour organizers say there are a lot of unknown talented artists in the community and feel like their work should be seen.
“We want to show people we have real quality artists in the community,” said Kuprowsky.
The free art walk starts at 10:30 a.m. at Cascade Flowers on June 11.
