Bonnyville RCMP arrest home invasion suspect in Kehewin

Bonnyville RCMP arrested a 28-year-old Kehewin resident in after a home invasion involving a firearm in Kehewin on Feb. 16.

KEHEWIN – Bonnyville RCMP arrested a 28-year-old Kehewin resident in after a home invasion involving a firearm took place on Feb. 16.

Officers from Bonnyville RCMP and St. Paul RCMP responded to the location and determined the suspect fled on foot. The victim was unharmed.

According to a correction released by RCMP on Feb. 20, the "Home invasion took place in MD of Bonnyville," while the incident that involved the discharge of a firearm took place in Kehewin.

Police established a containment zone and notified the Emergency Response Team. Further investigation revealed the suspect had escaped in a stolen SUV.

"The vehicle was later located with the assistance of Elk Point RCMP, occupied, on Road 2 in Kehewin," reads the original Feb. 18 RCMP press release. The Emergency Response Team apprehended the suspect.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including two counts of break and enter with intent, reckless firearm discharge, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The suspect remains in custody while awaiting for a judicial interim hearing. The court date will be released sometime in the future.

Police say they will release additional information on the suspect's additional charges, as well the suspect's name at a later date.
