Bonnyville RCMP respond to a string of break and enters

RCMP responded to several thefts, as well as break and enters that took place from Oct. 22 to 29.

BONNYVILLE – Over the last seven days, Bonnyville RCMP officers dealt with a string of break and enters. The majority of thefts and break-ins remain under investigation. 

Overnight on Oct. 22, unknown culprits broke into two work trucks located at a business in the 6200 block of 50 Ave., and stole several tools from the vehicles.   

Also occurring on Oct. 22, at 9:42 p.m., a suspect broke into a business in the 6200 block of 52 Ave., and stole several items. RCMP are working with the business and its surveillance system to identify possible suspects. 

Police are urging anyone who recognizes the green and tan coloured jacket shared by RCMP, which is suspected of being connected to the break-in, to contact Bonnyville RCMP. 

Overnight on Oct. 24, unknown culprit(s) allegedly broke into a business by kicking a door in at the 6100 block of 47 Ave., according to an RCMP statement. 

In the early morning hours of Oct. 26, a business in the 6000 block of 47 Ave. was also broken into. Two catalytic converters and miscellaneous tools were stolen from the business. 

On Oct. 28 at 1:45 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP responded to a break-in in progress at a business in the 4800 block of 62 St.   

According to RCMP, police attended but the suspects had fled and were no longer on scene upon police arrival. Police continue to investigate and are using the business’ video surveillance.  

Bonnyville RCMP are also investigating a rural residential property that was broken into at some point between Oct. 21 – 26.   

Police say the “culprit(s) stole an electric guitar and amp, as well as a 1985 Grey GMC truck with metal toolbox in the box. A welder was also removed from a welding truck and stolen. The suspects entered the garage and stole a Husqvarna weed eater.” 

Anyone with information on any of the break and enters is urged to contact the Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers. 

RCMP respond to an assault with a weapon 

On Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP was called to a residence in the 5500 block of 55 Street for an assault with a weapon complaint.   

Upon arrival RCMP arrested a male and seized two metal rods used in the alleged assault.   

“The male was also found to have methamphetamine and ID that did not belong to him on his person,” say police.   

A 34-year-old male from Bonnyville has had the following charges laid against him: assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property and identity theft. 

The man is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on Nov. 16.  

Police say the man and victim are known to each other. 

Impaired driving 

On Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP pulled over a vehicle on 50 Ave. for having expired registration.   

According to RCMP, a subsequent breath sample determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.   

A 49-year-old female from Bonnyville has been charged under the provincial sanctions for impaired driving along with two Traffic Safety Act charges for driving an uninsured motor vehicle and driving while unauthorized.
