Cold Lake resident charged after attempted child abduction

COLD LAKE – Charges have been laid after Cold Lake RCMP responded to what was described as an attempted child abduction on Dec. 3.

RCMP received a call around 4:42 p.m. regarding the alleged child abduction attempt at a restaurant on 50th Street in Cold Lake South.

According to RCMP, a female suspect approached and picked up a child from a chair. The child's family intervened when the suspect tried to leave with the child.

Cold Lake RCMP located and arrested the suspect, who reportedly fled the area. Lynette Scanie, 30, from Cold Lake, was charged with abduction of a person under the age of 14.

Scanie was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. She was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5, at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul, reads a Dec. 5 press release from RCMP.
