Confirmed COVID cases increase in the Lakeland

Lac La Biche region sees 51 active cases of virus, as of last update. The province will be doing a COVID-19 update today at 3:30 p.m.

LAKELAND - Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Lakeland region have seen an increase as of late.

The Lac La Biche region is now at 49 active cases, the highest in the region. The region labelled as 'Lac La Biche County' on the provincial map also shows two active cases in the area, when viewing the map by municipality.

The MD of Bonnyville region has 42 active cases, and the Cold Lake region is sitting at 37 active cases of the virus, as of Thursday morning.

In the St. Paul area, there are 32 active cases confirmed, and the neighbouring region of Smoky Lake has 17 active cases. The numbers are accurate as of April 27, and a provincial update is expected at 3:30 p.m. today (Thursday).

When the province did its last official update on April 27, 812 additional cases of variants of concern were identified, bringing the provincial total to 26,863.

There were a total of 20,721 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and the testing positivity rate was 11.4 per cent.
