It's been a great week for watching the skies across the Lakeland. Increased electromagnetic activity caused by solar energy explosions has lit up the atmosphere above much of North America.

Social media pages and news websites have been filled with colourful and creative images from the night-time light shows. On Thursday night, anticipated to be a highlight in the week of night-light auroras, the Lac La Biche POST newsroom found a couple enjoying the show at the Holowachuk Estates boat launch on Beaver Lake. While the reds and greens of the celestial colour palet looked a little less stark to the naked eye, the SLR camera lens picked up the vibrant colours lighting up the dark Lakeland night.

According to the US-based National Weather Service, the solar activity is at the peak of its 11-year cycle, providing a few more nights to find a quiet spot, snuggle in – and look up at the colourful northern skies.

If you want to show off some of your photos of the week's aurora borealis displays, post them to the Lakeland This Week social facebook page.
