Highway 36 south of Lac La Biche opened for traffic after morning crash

Detours in effect on Highway 36 south of Lac La Biche following serious crash at intersection

UPDATE -- At 3:30 pm on Friday, RCMP were  reporting that a section of Highway 36 south of Lac La Biche near the Bonesville subdivision had been re-opened to traffic after a morning collision.

Police are saying the crash involved two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 36 and Township Road 662 — the southern entrance to the residential subdivision.

RCMP have yet to release details about the vehicles, the occupants, or their condition.

While collision analysts and emergency crews were at the scene, the roadway was blocked to all north and southboud traffic. Alternate routes saw traffic being detoured south of the crash onto the Christy Creek Road or back roads in the Beaver Lake Cree Nation.

RCMP are expected to update information about the crash through the weekend.

Initial report —

Lac La Biche RCMP are saying a section of Highway 36 about five kilometres south of Lac La Biche between the Bonesville subdivision and the entrance to the Beaver Lake Cree Nation is closed due to a serious crash.

RCMP, fire and ambulance were on the scene at Highway 36 and Township Road 662 at about 9:30 Friday morning. At least one late-model pickup truck was involved in the crash. Wreckage from the truck, including a canopy cover, was scattered across the highway and into the ditches. The truck came to rest in the northbound lane of the highway. The vehicle suffered substantial damage.

RCMP have not released details about occupants in the vehicle or their condition.

Traffic was detoured through the gravel road access to the Beaver Lake Cree Nation just north of the crash site. Larger, commercial traffic travelling along Highway 36 was being advised to avoid the area, and to re-route west to Highway 663 using the Christy Creek Road to rejoin Highway 36 south of the crash scene.

The roadway was expected to be blocked for several hours as the investigation continues.
