ST. PAUL - The Town of St. Paul is going to be recommendation residents not hold garage sales this spring.

The topic came up during the municipality's April 16 Committee of the Whole meeting, with councillors in attendance agreeing that garage sales are a risk to everyone invovled during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CAO Kim Heyman noted that there have been suggestions that people not have garage sales. Garage sales are an ideal place for the transfer of the virus, with people coming in close contact and touching multiple items.

"It's generally cash transactions," said Mayor Maureen Miller. Many businesses are limiting cash transactions due to the transfer of germs on cash. The mayor noted that she hopes "common sense" will prevail.

Heyman also asked for councils feedback on possibly delaying the opening of its campgrounds. She explained that since the town campgrounds are typically only used when there are events happening in town, it would likely cost money to open them while there are restrictions in place on large gatherings.

"It is a council decision, but I would recommend not opening until June 1," said Heyman.

While no decision was made during the Committee of the Whole meeting, Heyman is expected to bring a recommendation forward to a future council meeting.
