Solar flares earlier this week mean that the northern lights could be visible in Alberta over the coming days.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Centre says there have been strong solar flares this week. As a result, the Centre issued a geomagnetic storm watch for Oct. 3. to 5.
Forecasts show a high likelihood of visible northern lights Alberta on Thursday (Oct. 3) and Friday (Oct. 4).
Geomatic storms cause the northern lights, and NOAA is forecasting a G2 storm with a KP index of 6.
